After the first two weeks in Independent Study and Mentorship, the process of reaching out to professionals commenced. Due to my studying two topics, I was required to look for people in both fields and write interview questions for both types of professionals. The questioning process has taught me how to think past than the simple, “What do you do exactly?”. I was able to ask deeper questions about how their jobs, both in pediatrics and writing, resonate with them on a daily basis and what people find rewarding about their career. Even by writing the question, my passion for both fields has grown tremendously as I know my own answers to each question. By reaching out to professionals in the past seven days, I have learned to build networks and the open personalities of many of the people on LinkedIn have welcomed me into the professional society. Many of the professionals that I have connected with on LinkedIn have offered up their help to conduct my research and reach out to other professionals in both fields, for with I am very grateful for. Now that I have sent out emails to multiple possible mentors, I am eager to hear back and begin my journey into studying the selfless job of pediatrics and the creative career of writing.
